National Mission Statement The mission of the National United Church Ushers Association of America, Inc. (NUCUAA), a lay organization, is to promote Church Ushering throughout the member States without regard to race, creed or denomination. The Organization is committed to the Ushers and perpetuation of a silent uniform method of Church Ushering, which strives to stimulate an interest in church ushering to promote growth through the development and implementation of innovative programs, and to raise the spiritual, moral, and social awareness of its membership. Theme: "Ushers Committed to Doing the Will of God!”
NATIONAL UNITED CHURCH USHERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA, INC. www.nationalchurchushers.org NATIONAL PRESIDENT DR. LINDA PATES - BARNES Greetings, Fellow Doorkeepers, As the 25th National President, I am deeply grateful to God and you for the opportunity to serve for 2025-2026. Thank God for a spiritual, inspirational, and successful 106 th Convention. Thank you for your attendance and support. A Big Thank you to the State of Arizona and the Western Region for your grand hospitality. I know that with your continuous support and love, our 107th convention will be fruitful for the State of Florida and the Southern Region. Scripture tells us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” I charge each one of you to share your ideas and talents. It will be these ideas and talents that will keep us moving forward! The goal for 2025-2026 continues with God’s guidance. I promise that as president, I will do my best to continue to listen and ensure transparency. I am committed to leading NUCUAA with vision, integrity, and courage. I will work diligently with the Board of Directors and the Central, Eastern, Southern, and Western Regions to fulfill my tasks and responsibilities and to move NUCUAA forward. The organization’s theme is "Ushers Committed to Doing the Will of God!” “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2 (King James Version) The challenge is to allow God to renew our minds and use each of us to glorify Him and move NUCAA forward. Let us now move forward together with determination and turn goals into reality. Let’s begin! Let's get it done! Now! Let’s continue to pray for our organization, the sick, the shut-in, the bereaved, military men and women, and their families, as well as the world. Let’s Pray without ceasing. The scripture tells us to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1Thessalonians 5:16-17). To pray without ceasing means always having our minds on the things of God and being in continuous communication with Him so that every moment may be as fruitful as possible. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to NUCUAA and the Usher Ministry! Always remember, the one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped (Proverbs 11:25 MSG).

The United Church Ushers of Arizona concluded the summer season with attending and participating in family reunions, vacations, weddings, Vacation Bible School and the successful hosting of the 106 th NUCUAA National Convention which was held in Phoenix, Arizona. These activities remind us that God’s work does not go on vacation. Now, it is onto preparing for the upcoming fall activities of holidays and school activities. Pilgrim Rest Baptist and South Phoenix Missionary Baptist Churches held weeklong Vacation Bible School (VBS) sessions offering classes for youth and adults. Pilgrim Rest held its VBS during June 16 – 20, 2025 which was well attended. South Phoenix Missionary Baptist held its VBS during July 7 – 11, 2025 on the themed subject “Back To Basics: B.I.B.L.E. (Blessings Inspiring Believers to Live Eternally)”. Several South Phoenix Ushers were members of the VBS staff serving as teachers, administration, and culinary technicians. The session concluded with a pool and pizza party. PRAISE REPORT! Usher Marilyn Foard of New Salem Baptist Church, Usher Tina Dennis of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, and Usher Donna Wiley of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church were all diagnosed with cancer last part of 2024/early part of 2025. By God’s grace and healing power, all three ladies have successfully completed their individual challenging prescribed treatments and are doing well! As stated in Isaiah 53:5, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” South Phoenix Missionary Baptist Church paid tribute to their Pastor, Rev. Shauncey D. Hatten, Sr. by celebrating his 2 nd Pastoral Anniversary. On Friday, August 8 th the anniversary celebration was kicked off with an evening service with Bishop Jameen Oliver of Jehovah Shammah Apostolic Faith Church delivering the message. A church family tennis shoe indoor picnic was held on Saturday, August 9th to fellowship and to recognize the efforts and service that Rev. Hatten carried out over his first two years as Pastor. On Sunday, August 10 th the celebration closed out with Pastor Larry D. Gooden of Dominion World Ministries delivering the morning message and Rev. Alex Day, Pastor of First Shiloh Baptist Church bring the afternoon Word. It was truly a blessed weekend!
The church family and Ushers Ministry of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church were involved in several special events and outreach. During the week of June 30 – July 2, 2025 the church set aside time to learn through a program called S.A.I.L., Summer Adventure In Learning. Also, during July, the annual Marriage Retreat was held in Tucson. This year an invitation to singles was extended for those who wanted to get an insight on marriage! The weekend retreat was designed to be fun, truthful, and transformational through learning to use communication and listening tools. The Noon Prayer for July was led by Youth Ushers Carolyn Webb and Jackson Allen, and Senior Usher Fiona Webb. For the months of June, July, and August, Pilgrim Rest’s Mobile Food Pantry fed an average of 4,200 families.
National United Church Ushers Association of America, Inc. (NUCUAA) held its 106 th National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona during July 21 – 25, 2025. Along with the Western Region, it was a challenging and privileged task to host a convention of this magnitude. From the pre convention events of the Saturday bus shopping trip and the Sunday musical to the Wednesday Sedona outing to the Friday Honoree/ Installation banquet, and everything else in between, the Western Region, the state of Arizona, and Host Pastor Rev. Shauncey D. Hatten, Sr. of South Phoenix Missionary Baptist Church rolled out the red carpet to make the delegates and visitors feel welcomed and special, especially with giving a welcome bag prepared specifically for them. It was a thrill to highlight the state of Arizona, and it was a true blessing that God showed favor on the convention by keeping the temperature below 100 degrees for most of the convention days. Pastor Hatten did us proud by being a very engaged Host Pastor by actively attending and participating in all events he was requested. He delivered powerful sermons during the Sunday Interfaith Service held on July 20 th and at the Monday Candlelight Service held on July 21 st . The Monday morning, July 21 st Welcome Program featured greetings from Leah Landrum-Taylor, Director of Community Engagement for Arizona’s Department of Economic Security and from the Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territory Commander Marable and Deputy Commander Michelle London Marable. Given their powerful, historical content delivered greetings, Commander Marable and Deputy Commander London-Marable were a big hit and the delegates eagerly waited to take pictures with them.
For the first time ever, Arizona participated in the floor demonstration competition and in the drill competition with a senior team for both events. Even though we did not place, we made a good showing based on the scores received and are looking forward to competing in 2026 at Orlando, Florida. Arizona came away as the winner of the Alumni Department’s Bible Book of Seven with one of the highest scores of 169 out of 175 possible points. On Thursday, July 24 th Arizona’s Financial Secretary Augus Hall, who is also the National Willie J. Minnifield Training and Development Department Chairman represented the department by delivering a workshop on emergency preparedness entitled “Be Safe, Stay Ready”. Then closing out the convention on Friday, July 25 th , Arizona President Julia Rodgers was honored at the banquet along with her fellow Western Region honorees Pamela Farley of California, Edith Jackson-Norris of Colorado, and Charles Houston of Washington State. One of the tributes to President Rodgers’ came from her great-grandchildren singing “Jesus Is Real To Me”. Also, at the banquet Arizona’s Board of Director’s Chairman, James McMiller was installed as a new Director representing the Western Region on the National Board of Directors.
As we come to the close of summer and enter into autumn, the United Church Ushers of Arizona will prepare and look forward to the upcoming events and activities to close out 2025. Antioch Missionary Baptist will hold their Men’s Day on Sunday, September 21, 2025, and their Ushers’ Prayer Breakfast in October. Gideon Missionary Baptist Church will hold their Women’s Day in September, their Neighborhood Picnic in October, their New Leaf Thanksgiving Dinner outreach effort in November, and their Christmas Bike Drive in December. Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will hold their Women’s Day on Sunday, September 21, 2025, a prostate cancer screening on Sunday, September 28, 2025, and their Fall Festival in October. Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church will hold their Annual Ushers’ Day on Sunday, October 19, 2025. South Phoenix Missionary Baptist will hold their Youth Day on Sunday, September 14, 2025, their Women’s Day Prayer Breakfast and Women’s Day in October. As Romans 12:12 states “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer” as we approach the end of another year.

“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Psalm 84:10
The Santa Clara District Ushers were blessed to host the 84th State Convention this year at the beautiful Courtyard by Marriott San Jose North/Silicon Valley. The theme was “Empowering One Another in the Body of Christ in Unity,” Jude 1:20-22. It was truly a spirit-filled and wonderful convention, enjoyed by all. From the very beginning to the end, God received all the glory. He led, guided, and blessed the planning every step of the way. A special thank you to all who worked tirelessly to make this a memorable convention as we praised God. Our dynamic host was Santa Clara’s Spiritual Advisor, Rev. Ken James, Associate Pastor and his church, Open Bible Faith Community Church. The fabulous coordinator for our convention was Usher Barbara Cofield who worked with a fantastic planning committee: Ushers Machelle Clark, Pam Bates, Sharon Neeley, Tonya Parks, Arlene Henry, Donna Braxton, Pamela Farley, Doris Blakely, Harold Jones, Anitra Galloway, Regina Williams, and Sister Sandra Towner. Of course, the success could not have been complete without our special guests, musicians, soloists, the California Delegates, and the hotel staff who treated us as their special VIPs, prepared and served delicious meals each day. A buffet was provided to us when checked out on Saturday morning. These are just a few highlights from our three-day convention: The State Convention opened with a joyful spirit as delegates gathered for the Welcome Program. We were honored to have retired Superior Court Judge and author of Preside, the Honorable Judge Shelyna V. Brown, deliver greetings and officially welcome everyone to San Jose and to our 84th State Convention. The evening was filled with fellowship, music, and words of encouragement that set the tone for the days ahead. This year at our 84 th State Convention the Alumni and Outreach Departments gave a $500.00 to the TWIS Organization of San Jose. TWIS stands for “Turning Weaknesses into Strengths.” TWIS vision is to empower formerly incarcerated individuals to become independent, responsible, and productive citizens. The money given to TWIS Services, Inc. will be spent on backpacks filled with twenty-three personal items that will be given to returning citizens who have been recently released.
