The purpose of the Foundation is to award grants, scholarships, and professional fellowship stipends to qualified applicants.

Scholarships are awarded annually:

1st Place 2 nd Place 3 rd Place 4 th Place

The Foundation forwards the Scholarship awards to the college / university once full - time enrollment has been verified by the Registrar ’ s Office with the college seal. Each contestant not placing in the Contest receives $500.00. In addition, the R. E. Harshaw, Jr. Foundation Board of Trustees provides yearly grants of $250.00 to be matched by State funds for a total of $500.00 awarded to deserving students in member States. Qualifications for grants: Any member State of NUCUAA is qualified to receive the $250.00 annual matching grant. How to apply: Any state President may request a Grant Form from the Trustees of the Foundation, complete the Form, and return to the Foundation ’ s Secretary by May 31 st . Qualifications for Stipends: graduate of high - school with a minimum of 16 hours. Enrolled in a full - time undergraduate accredited college / university pursuing a Bachelor's Degree. Must have an average of 2.5 or better. Students applying for a stipend are to submit an official application and certification of enrollment with the college seal from the Registrar ’ s Office to the President of the Foundation. The amount of the stipend will be determined by the Trustees based upon need and qualifications.

Fellowships are awarded as a means of assisting students in their educational enrichment activities. Applicants should have substantial standing in their field of study, demonstrated desirable leadership ability, and possess a positive attitude towards others. Only students in Graduate or Post - Graduate studies are eligible for the R. E. Harshaw, Jr. Fellow ship Award.
