USHER MINISTRY
The Ushers at Curry Temple celebrated their 75th Ushers’ Annual Day on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
The theme for this event was “Serving the Lord With Gladness” Psalms 100:1. The Speaker for the day was Reverend Dr. Linda Smith, Senior Pastor of MLK Jr. Baptist Church in Renton, WA. The Ushers marched in on the traditional hymn “We’ve Come this Far by Faith” because it is truly our faith and trust in God that has kept us serving him with gladness. Reverend Dr. Linda Smith did an excellent job dissecting the theme and encouraging the Ushers to continue the fight. She emphasized that the battle is not over and despite the obstacles that seem to get in the way, God still has the final say. As long as we obey the will of God and lean not on our own understanding, we will prevail. It’s by God’s grace, mercy, and goodness that we have been sustained these 75 years, and we give him all the praise. MLK Jr. Ushers were the Ushers in Charge, and the Robert B. Sherron School of Ushering Alumni were present to assist if needed. The United Christian Church Ushers Association was well represented. The State President, Bro. Alvin Nurse brought greetings as well as the Seattle 1st Vice President, Sis. Vornice Bassett. Bro. John Radford of Peoples Inst. Baptist Church did the prayer, and Sis. Carrie Richardson of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist read the scripture. Curry Temple’s own Sis. Valerie McGregor extended a very exuberant welcome, and Sis. Sharon McDory, the Usher President from MLK, responded just as dynamically and energetically. This was a milestone for the Curry Temple Senior Ushers, and it was a great way to start the New Year. We were pleased to have one of our former members, Sis. Geneva Delores Nichols from Las Vegas, NV, to join us for this celebration. Good food and great fellowship was enjoyed by all in attendance. To God be the glory! Marion A. Brazier, President; Carmen Jones-Savage, Vice President; Anita Eakers, Secretary; Verleeta Wooten, Treasurer; Reverend Jacqueline Harris, Pastor
