A combined Luncheon was proposed to the National Body in 2008 by National President, Charles E. McCraney, Jr. The goal was to bring together the Departments that would historically have separate luncheons for a joint luncheon and encourage more participation by our Delegates in the Spirit of Unity. In celebration of our 90th National Convention, which was held in 2009, the Board of Directors, along with the Chairpersons of the following Departments: Alumni Department, George J. Irick; George T. Grier School of Ushering, Frankie Roberson; William H. Davis Honor Club, Karen Brown; Alma Cooper Hawkins Public Relations Department, Patricia D. Hughes; and A. W. Briggs Health Unit, Louise Harris, met and planned the first “ All Hands As One Unity Luncheon. ” Complete with the now infamous “ All Male Fashion Show Review, ” the first Luncheon was a great success. At the 2nd Unity Luncheon, and by popular demand, we chose to “ Bring it and Bring it Again. ” In 2010, the Presidents ’ Council, along with National President Filmore F. Gregory, brought forth a recommendation to the body that the Unity Luncheon name be changed to the JAMES E. ANDERSON UNITY LUNCHEON , in honor of our 10th Past President James E. Anderson, who served from 1980 - 1984.
